The present situation

With the help of several charity organisations the teachers have been able to clean the school building and the surrounding with a big effort. During this process, lot of desks, books, furniture, playing items, musical items, wheel chairs etc were thrown away because they cannot be used again.Many people come ,look and promised to gift manythings but it did not work.

Problem has been worsned because they don't get any help from the Education Department, because of lack of funds in the government .and also this school is a private school which was originally started by an wealthy individual named B.R.Dissanayake.

Now it is managed by a board consist of teachers students social workers .There are two management boards for the school and the home.The management board also not in a position to help to rebuild the school as they have spend a lot of money to repair the damaged home for the inmates.

Now the school needs help desperately to recover from the damage. So the board of management and the students appeal from the donors to help to repair the school and make it cleaner, safer and a prettier place for the disabled and mentally handicapped children to continue studies.

If you are really interested, this is a good opportunity, to help them, because if you see the state of this place from your eyes you will understand the life. Because they are mentally handicapped people neglect them, they cannot tell what they want to tell.

So someone has to work behalf of them. There are volunteers to do the work but they need money to do essential things. Also they need essential things. Please encourage your friends and realations to help this school and the orphanage. Because this is in the Galle town area just by the side of the southern highway, any day if you come to Sri Lanka you can visit this place and see what they have done from your money. Donating money to a place like this is much worthy, because you can see their development from your eyes. If you donate money to a common fund, you cannot see what they do from your money.

B.R.Dissanayaka school (Sambodhi) for the physically and mentally handicapped children
Introduction Formally Sambodhi school, is situated at Galle in Southern Sri Lanka. It is the only special school in this area started in 1969 to give a special education for the inmates of the adjoining Sambodhi Orphanage Home for the mentally and physically handicapped children. This school has been registered by the special education unit of the department of education in Sri Lanka. There were 150 students(4-20 years old) in the school with 21 special education trained teachers.
Tsunami Damages This school and the orphanage also became the victims of tsunami. Both were badly damaged killing nearly 50 disabled and mentally handicapped children. The school building, toilets, bathrooms, desks, chairs, cupboards, wheelchairs ,library books, playing items etc are washed away. The perimeter wall which gives protection for the children from the adjoining main road has completely collapsed. to the ground and also the floor of two classes has gone down. The worst is that, toilets are broken and the pits are open to the sky ,leaving a very dangerous area for the children. It is like the hell on earth. So it is very dangerous to start the school without major repairs
