Tsunami

Donations and Relief work

done by Wasantha Wijegunawardene (Sri Lanka)

Dear Friends and Guests

Below are some of my Past Guests, Tour Leaders who worked with me, and well wishers, who sent me money, and other items for my projects. Money they have banked, but it takes half a month to reach Sri Lanka. As soon as this money reaches my account, I will spend them in relevant projects and inform all of you.

Thank you all, for the generous offers, to help, and spending your valuable time and effort to share the grief of the innocent tsunami victims. The amount you donate does not matter, your thought to share the grief is very important to them. We feel that, we are not alone. As a nation we cannot depend every day on help from others, we have to stand on our feet one day. I think most of the victims and others have learnt this lesson already. But to stand on ones feet in a disaster like this, is impossible without atleast a small help from someone. That is the main reason why I started these projects. We cannot do a lot, but little is more beautiful. We can see it and be happy of what we have done.

I am maintaining a separate Web page to give you information with pictures. I have a link below in this page to it. I hope to update These pages every week. Please keep on watching. Please encourage your friends to join us in this effort to help the tsunami Victims.

If you have any suggestions, you are welcome. There were many requests to include my photograph in this page .Here I put it.

*Sri Lanka Government Imposed a ban on all tsunami Aid,and diverted all tsunami Aid to the government central tsunami Aid Authority. There are many tsunami aid containers, which were sent by other countries, to N.G.O's without clearing, in the port, because, with all the red tape that, government impose, it is very difficult to get them released from the port.If we cannot get them released within a short period, government will Tax it, considering them as commercial items, and if we don't pay the tax, they will take over the stock, to the Social Service Departmant of the government. All these are rules imposed without thinking about the results, and it is beyond our control. It's a pitty, with all the struggle and effort, from your end, and, at the final stage, we could not make use of it at this end.But still we are trying to get the containers released.I deeply regret the inconvieniences caused and the valuable time ,energy and money, spent on collecting spectacles.Even though we are unable to get it at the moment,we really appreciate the great effort of yours.and take this oportunity, to thank all of you, who participaated in it, on my request. Also there is a new rule coming, to Tax all tsunami foriegn aid to subject to tax 30% of 6% of total money value.

05.03.2005 according to the news which I got, Government has agreed to release all the retained containers in the port except rice containers.and the tax benefit will last till April 2005.This dicission has taken by the government because of the pressure from the foriegn governments regarding the new law. I hope our containers are aalso relaesed soon.Recieved our spectacles boxes on the 15.03.2005.there are some more to bring from Nederlands
